Jazz Funk with Brandon Girouard

Class Description: 

Known for “Compelling, explosive movement!” Brandon Girouard re-invents the meaning of FUNK. An emphasis will be placed on explanation of terminology, warm-up, isolations, and center with focus on strengthening turns, jumps, flexibility, technical execution, and combinations. Class explores body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms and encourages individual expression and the development of personal style. Brandon uses touches of jazz, commercial funk and the technical sharpness of jazz technique – combining the use of clean lines and precision with a sense of sensuality.


Brandon M. Girouard hails from New Bedford, Massachusetts and is a international dancer/choreographer. He holds both a BA from Muhlenberg College and an MFA from NYU in Dance and Choreography. Since training for 19 years at The Cheryl McCormack Academy of Dance of New Bedford and The Boston Conservatory Dance Theatre, he has performed with dance companies such as dancetheatreX,Melanie Stewart Dance Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Ailey 2,Koresh Dance, Plasma Dance Theatre, and for Bill Clinton’s Inaugural Presidency Gala. Professional Credits include: Thanks Gregory!, Carnival Cruise Lines,Legends at the Harrah’s Resort Las Vegas, Resorts Atlantic City, Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards, and the National Tour of West Side Story. Brandon has workedwith such noted choreographers as Mia Michaels, Brian Friedman, Robert LaFosse, Tiffany Mills, Gregory Hines, Brian Thomas, Debbie Dee, and Charles O. Anderson both nationally and internationally. Brandon was awarded “Most Promising Performer” by Art Stone Dance, and was featured in Dance Spirit magazine in October of 2003 and 2004. He has performed throughout the US with Troika Entertainment, Onstage Entertainment, Carnival Cruise Lines, QVC and MTV television, and most recently Disney.
Brandon has showed choreographic works at Dance Theatre Workshop in NYC, BAM, NYC and Philly Fringe, Wilmington Festival, Painted Bride Arts Center, ACDFA, Muhlenberg College, and recently Buenos Aires-Argentina. In addition to choreography, Brandon has served as Assistant Choreographer for Broadway Bares and Broadway in Cape Town South Africa. Brandon resides on the guest faculty roster at Broadway Dance Center and PeriDance in New York City and choreographs throughout the country.
