Biography :
Daria Klimentova was born in Prague, Czech Republic, where she trained as a gymnast to Olympic standard, but she decided to pursue Ballet instead and became the best ballerina of her class aged 10.
She trained at the Prague State Conservatory, before becoming a soloist at the Czech National Theatre Ballet, aged 18. In 1992 she was invited as a guest performer with the Cape Town Ballet company in South Africa. A year later, she joined the company where she danced for one year. She then joined Scottish Ballet Company taking a principal role before moving on to the English National Ballet in 1996.
After a 25-year career, the last 18 being with the ENB, she will retire at the end of the current season. During this time she has won numerous awards, including the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for outstanding female dancer in 2011. A day before her 44th birthday she will dance her last performance as a professional dancer, with Vadim Muntagirov her renowned partner (they are often likened to Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev).
Her repertoire includes Romeo & Juliet, Manon, Swan Lake, Snow Queen, Nutcracker, Sphinx, Lady of the Camellias, Midsummers Night Dream. Daria’s autobiography Agony and Ecstasy: My Life in Dance was published in March 2013.
Daria Klimentova is also a photographer. Her pictures have been published in several magazines and newspapers and she has exhibited in several galleries in London and Prague. She lives in London with her husband, Ian Comer, and their daughter Sabina.
