Clare Guss-West MA specialises in bringing alternative strategies to professional dance training and artistic performance.  Based in Switzerland & USA Clare is a former professional dancer, choreographer, teacher, holistic health practitioner and author.

Clare teaches an alternative approach to training for professional dancers and ballet teachers, translating into practical tools, the ‘inner’ energy work of martial art Chi Kung supported by the latest sports science ‘attentional focus’ research of Gabriele Wulf Phd. Research is adapted to the needs of dance training to manage energy and optimum muscular effort for enhanced performance and a sustainable technique. Clare delivers this work for The Royal Ballet, Houston Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Ballet de L’Opèra du Rhin, Opèra de Paris-Opèra Université and the Professional Dancer’s Postgraduate in Teaching RAD, Berlin Staatsballett.

She developed ‘dancing longevity’ teaching training, a diploma course of the University Côte d’Azur, integrating dance teachers, PTs, physiotherapists and therapists. Co-founder of the European Dance & Creative Wellness’ Foundation, Dutch National Ballet, Clare aims to bring awareness to the potential role of dance in innovative preventative health and wellness solutions.

The morning starts by learning:

Learn how to direct your intention and use imagery to create effortless movement, boosting stamina and power.

 The afternoon starts by:

Applying the new strategies to dance class, technique and performance.

First in a simple ballet barre then moving progressively on to “how to” use them to enhance your

·      Pirouettes

·      Allegro


Who is this training for?

This training is for experienced, intermediate/advanced dancers and teachers of classical, contemporary, modern and jazz dance.



PRICE: £65 – (£3 booking fee applies if booked online) – Red card members £60 (must be purchased with DW reception).

Danceworks offers a Certificate of Attendance for those teachers who require. This 6 hr training qualifies as External CPD. RAD External CPD compatible.
