Got To Dance

March 13, 2013

Got To Dance is a TV reality show dance competition, broadcast on Sky1 in UK and Ireland since 2009. The show is hosted by Davina McCall, with dancers/singers judges Ashley Banjo, Kimberly Wyatt and Aston Merrygold. The competition is open to all dance acts of any age, or style. Since series 2, the prize money for the winner chosen by the viewers votes is £250,000. Last August, the production team came at DW and selected our teacher Julie and Livio’s male contemporary dancers. Thanks to their talent they both went to the Live Semi-finals!
Two of our interns went to one of the live semi-finals, read about their experience below:

“It was an amazing experience for me to see how everything works during a real live show. Myself and Amandine, another intern from Danceworks, were given VIP tickets and we were picked up in a funny looking white little VIP car that brought us to the area for family/friends and other VIP guests. It was a cold day and getting to the studios was hard work, but it was well worth the effort. To see how they managed so many people and all the logistics was fantastic.

As we waited, I could really feel the nervousness of the family members and friends who were anticipating the big performance. Before the show started a very nice and entertaining MC explained everything to us and created a really good “pre-show” atmosphere. He worked hard to entertain hundreds of people before the show and during the commercial breaks to keep the atmosphere going. He entertained us with the Harlem Shake, and had the audience singing songs. Of course this is not seen by the viewers at home.

The live show itself was absolutely amazing. It is completely different to see such a big show live, rather than on TV. To be honest, some parts of the show looks much more impressive on television, but nobody can communicate the awesome feeling during a performance on a live show. I could really felt the energy from the dancers.

Personally, I have never seen a performance of contemporary dancers before, but when G-Nome (who we were supporting as their choreographer Livio Salvi is a Danceworks teacher) came on stage and began to dance you could feel their passion and energy. Also, the young amazing street dancers received huge audience support., It was indescribable. Now I really can understand why sometimes judges or people in the audience become so emotional. The atmosphere in such a big studio is breath taking. Such a brilliant experience.” –Bianca

It was the first time I took part of an audience for a live TV show. I did not expect that the atmosphere would be such warm and festive! Got To Dance shooting is the place to be to share dance love and passion. So many things happen behind the scene: a Harlem Shake, dance competitions, jury’s performance… From contemporary to street dance style,  performers all push themselves on stage to do their best. Unique and amazing experience!” –Amandine
