Hofesh Shechter graduated from the Jerusalem Academy for Dance and Music before moving to Tel Aviv to join the world renowned Batsheva Dance Company. Shechter began drum and percussion studies whilst in Tel-Aviv and continued later in Paris at the Agostiny College of Rhythm. Subsequently, he began experimenting and developing his own music while participating in various dance projects in Europe involving dance, theatre and body-percussion. In 2002 Shechter arrived in the UK and joined the Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company.

His choreographic debut, “Fragments,” for which he also created the score, toured both nationally and internationally. In 2004 Shechter was commissioned by The Place Prize to create the sextet, Cult. The work was one of five selected finalists and was announced winner of the Audience Choice Award. From 2004 to 2006 Hofesh was Associate Artist with The Place and was commissioned by their Robin Howard Foundation to created “Uprising,” his everpopular work for seven men. His work ‘In Your Rooms’ showed to sell out audiences at Sadler’s Wells in 2007.

In 2008 Shechter formed Hofesh Shechter Company, and continues to work independently with other dance and theatre companies. Many of Shechter’s works are still touring nationally and internationally.

In March–April 2015, Shechter presented a new piece in his first work for the Royal Ballet in London.

The fifth Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof is scheduled to begin performances in November 2015, with concept and choreography based on the original by Jerome Robbins. Bartlett Sher is set to direct, Shechter to choreograph.

In Autumn 2015, four of his works will be performed in four major London venues as part of #HOFEST, a four-week festival showcasing the work of the choreographer and musician.  Performances will take place at the Royal Opera House, Sadler’s Wells, Stratford Circusand 02 Brixton Academy in September and October 2015.
