Protein Dance was founded in 1997 by Italian Luca Silvestrini and Swiss Bettina Strickler, who attended the Laban Centre (now Trinity Laban) together as students. Beginning with their bi-lingual duet Duel in 1998, they created a series of high energy, accessible professional stage works, each one relishing a different aspect of contemporary life.  Bettina left in 2004 and Protein Dance went on to win the Audience vote at the 2006 Plaze Prize for Silvestrini’s piece, B For Body which looked at the obssesion with body image and was later developed into a ful length piece Dear Body in 2008.   Artistic Director, Luca Silvestrini  takes everyday issues and subjects them to a deep, witty analysis through his own very idiosyncratic and distinctive dance theatre. The result is work of humour, pathos and invention that reflects the integrity and absurdity of its ingredients. The latest production, inspired by the culture of online relationships, LOL (lots of love) created in 2011  was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Dance at Theatre Awards UK 2011, Best Modern Choreography and Outstanding Female Performance (Modern) at the National Dance Awards 2011 and won an award for Best Independent Company 2011.They are currently company in residence at Greenwich Dance Theatre.
