English ballerina Darcey Bussell CBE, was born in London 27th April 1969, and retired in 2007 from dance but continues to be deeply involved in it, as well as a fashion model, actress, children’s book author, entrepreneur and in 2012 joined the judging panel of Strictly Come Dancing. Her last ballet performance at the Royal Opera House, was Song of The Earth and she received an 8 minutes standing ovation.

Darcy trained at the Arts Education School, then at 13 moved to the Royal Ballet Lower School and at 16 to the RB Upper School. While still at school she was noticed by Kenneth MacMillan and in 1988 he gave her the leading role in The Prince of The Pagodas.  In December 1989, aged just 20, she was promoted to principal dancer, at the time the youngest principal of the Royal Ballet. Darcy Bussell has performed all the major classical roles numerous times throughout her career, with many of the world’s greatest companies and partners.

 She has received numerous awards for her services to dance. In 2012 she danced in the closing ceremony of the Olympics with 200 ballerinas, and also became the President of the Royal Academy of Dance.
