Danceworks proudly presents
A FULL-DAY WORKSHOP

With Strictly ProfessionalsMonday 18 May
.
Danceworks is proud to welcome Kevin Clifton and Karen Hauer, the renowned professional dance couple who appear on Strictly Come Dancing, who will be teaching a unique one-day workshop on the technique of Ballroom and Latin for intermediate and professional commercial, musical theatre, contemporary and ballet dancers and choreographers – demystifying what is an alien technique to many and giving an outline that can be understood by non-Ballroom and Latin dancers.
.

Kevin and Karen are uniquely placed to instruct this workshop, having emerged from totally different dance backgrounds. Kevin trained and competed in Ballroom and Latin from childhood before appearing in the West End in Dirty Dancing.  Karen was a scholar in New York at both the Fame Academy and at Martha Graham, coming to partnered dance in her late teens, and reaching the finals in the USA’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.
.
Kevin and Karen met in ‘Burn the Floor’ when they both appeared as principal dancers and have performed in the show on Broadway and in the West End. As a couple both professionally and privately, they have a connection that enables their live dance performances in the theatre, on TV, and now for this workshop, to deliver a level of expertise to be expected of two world champion dancers.
.
The workshop aims to demystify partnered dances. Among other skills, this workshop will provide a really good opportunity to understand the differences of ‘dancing in hold’ and ‘leading with your heels’, for dancers regardless of genre.

Growing up in New York, Karen was influenced by a very broad range of dance styles. She successfully made the crossover from a ballet and contemporary background.A visit to a Cha Cha class sparked her interest in Latin dance and that sent her in a new direction learning all the major ballroom dance styles..
Karen has an amazing presence on stage and is one of the most expressive and charismatic dancers on the current dance scene. Able to express emotion through each and every movement right through to her fingertips, Karen takes choreographed routines to new heights and she has that talent to attract the eye of every audience member whenever she dances.
