Masterclass with Maria Sascha Khan:

We are delighted to welcome renowned ballerina Maria Sascha Khan who will be teaching a Masterclass at Danceworks on 19th November. Maria Sascha’s mission is to give back and inspire others through the beauty of the arts. If you are an intermediate level + dancer, be sure to join us.

Places are limited and tickets cost £15. Online bookings are subject to a £2 fee.

Biography:

British/American ballerina Maria Sascha Khan has worked with the world’s top ballet companies, artists and choreographers of our time, including as principal dancer of the Ekaterinburg State Ballet, Russia and now as an International Guest Artist based in London.

She is the recipient of the Outstanding Artist Award, Mentor for Youth Arts in Action, Gaynor Minden Artist, member of the International Dance Council (CID) UNESCO and ambassador for the London based Save Wild Tigers.

Maria Sascha first started on her path towards a professional career in ballet when she was discovered by a former Bolshoi Ballet dancer.

Trained under Luidmila Morkovina at the Kirov Academy of Ballet (in Washington DC). Graduated with honours from the Academie de Danse Classique de Princesse Grace in Monte Carlo, with full scholarship, under the personal mentorship of the Russian directress Marika Besobrasova, coach to Nureyev and Fonteyn. Maria Sascha attended Royal Ballet School, San Francisco Ballet and American Ballet Theatre summer programs on scholarship.

After graduating from the Academie with top marks, Maria Sascha was invited to join the Staatsballett Berlin by Vladimir Malakhov, then went on to dance with the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Munich.

She has won medals from competitions such as the Youth America Grand Prix, Premio Internazionale Danza, awarded scholarships from the Prix de Lausanne, Tiger Woods Foundation Scholarships for her work with children and produces an online video series “Inspiring Artists”. Featured in television commercials for Honda Acura and Lowe, on the cover of Malaysia Tatler, in ELLE magazine and a recent Washington Post feature “Ballet Treasures from the Treasure State” on her family. She models for the Parisian jewellery company Chaumet, Damiani (Italian), Mouawad, Axenoff (Russian), and collaborates with Russian couture house Yanina Couture, and couture house Elizabeth Emmanuel, Amanda Wakely, and Ghost of London. She has had the honour of performing for Karl Lagerfeld, Katie Holmes, HRH Princess Caroline of Monaco, the only ballerina to perform at the coronation of HRH Prince Albert II of Monaco, HRH Princess Stephanie of Monaco, HRH Princess Camilla of Bourbon, HRH Sultana of Pahang, HRH Princess Olga Romanoff of Russia, footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger, German and Chinese heads of state, Jackie Chan and others.

Maria Sascha comes from a family of artists. Her and her three siblings are all classical ballet dancers. Sister Nadia Khan dances with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Rome. Brother Julian MacKay, who after making history as the first American to graduate from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, in Moscow, Russia, completing both the lower and upper school, won a Prix de Lausanne apprenticeship at the Royal Ballet and at 18, is now the youngest soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, St. Petersburg. Youngest sibling Nicholas MacKay,15 also made history, as the youngest American to ever attend the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. Having had the rare honour of attending both the Bolshoi Ballet and Vagonova Ballet Academy will soon be making his professional debut.
