  Class Description

If you’re new to tap or have a few years experience and are looking for more confidence, then beginner tap is for you! This class is designed to work on tap basics, including weight positioning, articulation, and most importantly, having fun! All levels are welcome to this class especially those who have never put on tap shoes before but have always wanted to! This class will work at a slow pace to ensure every dancer feels comfortable and confident. Dancers will learn tap terminology and dance combinations, starting off simple and working our way to more challenging routines! Individual attention will be given to make sure everyone leaves happy and confident with their progress!


Mariel Letourneau is a professionally trained performer and choreographer from New York City. Since graduating from University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Musical Theatre, she has acquired a vast amount of professional theatre and teaching experience in NYC, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, from conservatories to performing arts centers, national tours, regional theatres, short films, and music videos.
Most notably, Mariel has had the privilege to perform at Carnegie Hall in NYC, sing with James Taylor at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, co-produce and choreograph the NYC premiere of Howard Goodall’s The Dreaming, and train and dance with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall.

As an instructor, among teaching at various studios and institutions, Mariel was a dance, voice, and model coach at Barbizon Agency in NYC where she trained children and young adults currently performing and/or beginning their performance careers. She enjoys teaching jazz, tap, musical theatre, Fosse, commercial, contemporary, and fusing styles together. Mariel also teaches piano, and specializes in voice lessons with an emphasis on performance through song and preparing for auditions.
As a choreographer, Mariel has had the honor to work in a variety of theatre venues, including performing arts centers, black box theatres, and high schools, as well as choreographing pieces for the performance groups. Some of her favorite shows to work on include The Dreaming, Aida, Urinetown, Carrie, and 42nd Street.

As a performer, Mariel has had the opportunity to play many different wonderful characters at many different theatres. Some of her favorite roles are Peggy Sawyer (42nd Street), Martha (The Secret Garden), Linda (The Wedding Singer), and Violet Vivian (The Realm of the Unreal: The Vivian Requiem, *original musical first performed at University of the Arts ).
