Raymond Chai
Born in Malaysia, Raymond has worked in television, musical theatre and classical ballet. He danced with the National Ballet of Portugal and in musical theatre productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company; the London Palladium; Royal National Theatre and Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, as well as in Stuttgart, Hamburg and Zurich.

Raymond Chai’s professional level Classical Ballet classes at Danceworks are on Monday and on Tuesday from 15:00 to 16:30

His credits as an actor for German television include Tatort and Zorc and he choreographed for the UK television show, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet for the BBC. Raymond’s other choreographic commissions include working for Ballet Black (Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House), the National Ballet of Portugal; Hong Kong Ballet; Sommer Tanz Fest (Switzerland); Staatstheater Karlsruhe, East London Dance(Stratford Circus), Artelier at the Music Room and The BrideWell Theatre, King’s Head Theatre and his latest work was premiered at the Cloud Dance Festival 2013, at the Bernie Grant Theatre in London.

In the past year, Raymond has given a series of lectures and talks on Degas and Dance at the Royal Academy, and Titian/Metamorphoses at the National Gallery. He teaches Professional Ballet at DanceWorks in London and was the Chief Ballet Master for Ballet Black for 10 years. He is also currently a Lecturer In Ballet Technique at the London Contemporary Dance School.

This year

Raymond was invited to teach for Carlos Acosta and his Company at the London Coliseum and most recently was invited to work as Ballet Master for Yaun Yuan Tan, Fang-Yi Shue, Clifton Brown and Damien Smith at the season at Sadler’s Wells.
