Horton 2

The Lester Horton technique provides the fundamental tools needed in dance training for both professional and pre professional dancers. It helps to strengthen and increase the expressive range of the body through a series of exercises and movement vocabulary with varying tempos, rhythmical patterns and dynamic accents.

Biography

David Blake is an international performer, instructor and choreographer with more than 15 years experience in the entertainment industry appearing in commercials, TV shows, film and print. Currently he is performing in Disney’s award wining musical The Lion King understudying the role of ‘Banzai’.
He received his early training in singing, dancing and acting through the Cathy Levy Performing Arts Academy, later honing his skills at California State University, International Dance Teachers’ Association (Dance Teachers Academy) and the Alvin Ailey School.
A former principal dancer of the internationally renowned National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica (NDTC), he has toured extensively throughout the Caribbean, United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Throughout his professional career, David has been guest artist for various dance companies in Los Angeles, including JazzAntiqua Dance and Music Ensemble, Lake Arrowhead Classical Ballet (Nutcracker) and Winifred R Harris. He has worked with and performed in choreography produced by Donald McKayle, Ron Brown, and Maura Townsend. He also performed on shows that featured Rhianna, Duffy and the Pussy Cat Dolls.
David has conducted master classes and cultural workshops in Musical Theatre, Jazz, Modern and Afro-Caribbean based dance and has taught and choreographed for colleges, universities and professional schools including California State University and the Lula Washington Dance Academy. His career also includes charitable work through Theatre Cares (London) and the Missionaries of the Poor where he has choreographed and participated in musicals staged in the Caribbean, the United States and Europe, to raise funds to support programs for the poor and destitute in Jamaica, Philippines, Haiti, India, and Uganda.
