Class Description CLASSES

Elementary Ballet
Have you done Beginners Class for over a year but are feeling lost in other ‘elementary’ classes? Did you do ballet to elementary/intermediate level as a child or had a long break? Then this class is the one for you. This improvers’ class aims to bridge the gap between Beginners and normal Elementary classes. The class is more complicated than beginners with the emphasis on picking up more difficult sequences and learning travelling combinations from the corner. There is an opportunity to ‘break down’ steps and to make requests. You will also learn class etiquette such as how to space yourself and when to join in when dancing across the room in groups. This is not a class for absolute beginners. Wear ballet shoes..

Beginner Ballet
Did you do ballet as a child? Had a break for 20 years? Never done ballet but always fancied having a go? Do you want to improve posture, tone up and have fun at the same time? Then this class is for you! This is a very basic class focussing on correct placement of the body, correct technique and safe alignment. It aims to teach the foundation of ballet technique so that students can progress safely to the next level. The class comprises a slow barre which remains the same for a few weeks to enable students to concentrate on muscles and technique, rather than getting lost trying to pick up new combinations every class. The class continues in the centre with exercises such as port de bras, adagio, preparation for pirouettes and simple jumps. Every student gets personal corrections to enable them to work correctly, safely and progress, regardless of past experience. First build the car, then learn to drive it! Wear something comfortable that you can move in. Socks are fine to start with.

Biography
Hannah Frost has been teaching ballet at Danceworks for 4 years. She has become established as an excellent teacher, who’s ‘Beginner’ and ‘Improvers (Elementary)’ classes are deservedly very popular. Many adults who love ballet and would love to try it are afraid of it as a dance form for them – that it’s too rarefied, elite and difficult. As Hannah’s students testify, her classes are far from that. You don’t have to be a particular shape, age or ability to gain enormous benefits, as long as you are over 18 and willing to learn.
