Verona’s Afrobeats Fusion dance class draws influence from a variety of modern and traditional dance and music styles from the African diaspora including Nigeria, Ghana, Angola and much more! Verona will take you through your paces working closely with polyrhythms, melodic embodiment, percussive and rhythmic steps.
The word Afrobeats was invented by political musician Fela kuti during the 1970’s and is a genre of music which describes the eclectic fusion of African music coming from Nigeria and Ghana fused with Western sounds such as jazz, RnB and funk
Verona is a professional Dancer, Teacher, fitness instructor and Choreographer based in London who earned her BA HONS in Dance Performance in 2008 at Middlesex University, her teaching qualification under the IDTA syllabus and is a qualified Insanity fitness Instructor. She is the Founder and Co-Director of Ignition Dance Company which hosts under its umbrella Jamercise Fitness, IDC Dance and performance and CAOS Academy for Youth. Verona is experienced in a variety of dance styles including Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latin, Street and Lyrical however when teaching and Choreographing Verona specialises in Street , Lyrical, African: Kizomba/Semba Kuduro, Afro beats and Caribbean dance styles.
Verona has worked steadily as a Teacher since 2007 for various agencies and organisations which has resulted in her working at over a 50 Schools, Colleges, Universities and community clubs. Institutions include Lewisham College, Queen Mary University and Newham College to name a few.
Verona was also a former core member of FFI (Director Hakeem Onibudo of Impact Dance Company) whereby she often taught and performed at various events which have recently includedDance 4 Change (Launch), Peckham Pulse, May 2014 (Dancer and teacher), DIVERCITY, Greenwich Dance, April 2014 (Dancer), Harrow’s Laughing, Harrow Arts Centre, March 2014 (Dancer) Live Vibe Make it Happen, Rich Mix, June 2013 (Work experience).
