The Dance Company 

Ultima Vez Wim Vandekeybus was founded in 1986 as the company and organisation of choreographer, director and filmmaker Wim Vandekeybus.

Since its foundation, Ultima Vez has intensively developed its activities as an international contemporary dance company with a strong base in Brussels and Flanders.Currently the activities of Ultima Vez are focussed around:

  • the creation, production, distribution and promotion of the artistic work of Wim Vandekeybus
  • the organisation of educational activities for various target groups
  • the support and counselling of choreographers through the European Network Life Long Burning

      Workshop Details During this workshop you will study the vocabulary from several Ultima Vez shows in order to understand the most important aspects of these performances, where floor work and partnering work form the base.Ideas, concepts and sources behind the movements will be discussed: risk, trust, moving with necessity, instinct, self-protection, how to protect somebody else, speed, fragility, softness, weakness, tension…The different tasks will allow you to discover how you dance, where your limits are and how you can go further. You will find answers, but also new questions.

Manual Ronda
Manuel Ronda was born 1977 in Italy (Genoa) where he first studied Industrial Design at the University of Architecture. Afterwards he studied at the modern dance department of the Theater School in Amsterdam in 1999. After dancing in various projects with Charleroi/Danses Plan-K directed by Frederic Flamand, he collaborated with Angélique Wilkie in the performance “Zeropoint”. In 2005 he joined Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus where he danced in the touring productions “Puur”, “Spiegel”, “Menske” and the long movie “HereAfter”, until 2008. As a dramaturge, he assisted choreographer/director Elena Fokina with the performance “Pristan” in Mexico, and with “Bielovodie” in Moscow. Since 2014 he’s performing again with Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus in “Talk to the demon”. Manuel teaches beside his performance activity contemporary dance classes. He focusses on the connection with one’s own body, with the understanding of its limits, in order to acknowledge how far one is willing or able to go.
