Danceworks 8-Week Absolute Beginners Ballet Course for Adults

Perfect for people who have never done a ballet class before; or people who did ballet as a child and would love to get back into it


This course is for absolute beginners regardless of level of fitness, previous dance experience or lack of it. You may have regretted giving up as a child, or are just looking to improve your posture, muscle flexibility and all-round health with the one of the most disciplined forms of exercise.

Classes will be relaxed and informative providing a sound knowledge of basic technique. The course will have great benefits such as Improving co-ordination, posture, toning the body, strengthening and lengthening of muscles and musicality. It will be held in one of Dancework’s lovely studios in complete privacy with a small number of participants to ensure that you gain the most benefit possible from the 8-week course.

Since 1982 Danceworks has been one of Europe’s leading dance studios with over 130 drop-in classes a week in Ballet, Contemporary and World Dance. We are located in the heart of London, a couple of minutes from Bond Street Tube opposite Selfridges main entrance.


Course content will include (but not limited to) :

  • Posture and placement work
  • Improve core strength
  • Basic steps
  • Turning
  • Footwork combination
  • Improve muscle tone in a long lean elegant way
  • Improve flexibility, all while dancing!
  • Barre work with basic easy to follow exercises to focus on correct technique
  • Centre practice, including:
  • Port de Bras
  • Adagio
  • Waltz
  • Preparation for Pirouettes
  • Allegro




Born in Russia, Dmitri Gruzdyev trained at the Vaganova Ballet Academy. He won first prize at the first Vaganova Ballet competition in 1988.

Dmitri joined English National Ballet in September 1993 following a successful season with the Kirov Ballet at the London Coliseum in the summer. He has danced in The Sleeping BeautySwan Lake, GiselleThe NutcrackerRomeo & JulietCoppéliaCinderella, as well as Derek Deane’s Alice in Wonderland, Drummerboy  and Lead Cadet in Lichine’s Graduation Ball and roles in Bigonzetti’s X.N. Tricities and Symphonic Dances and in Derek Deane’s Impromptu, Wayne Sleep’s Savoy Suite.

Dmitri has also created roles in Patrick Lewis’s Cut to the Chase and Unrequited Moments, Christopher Hampson’s Perpetuum MobileCountry Garden and Concerto Grosso and the role of Mercutio in Derek Deane’s Romeo and Juliet and Prince Florimund in Deane’s The Sleeping Beauty. In 2007 Dmitri created the role of the lead Gypsy Boy in Michael Corder’s The Snow Queen.

Recent roles include Hans van Manen’s Trois Gnossiennes and David Dawson’s A Million Kisses to my Skin. In 2008 Dmitri appeared as both Lescaut and Des Grieux in Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon. During 2009 he has danced The Poet in Chopiniana and the The Golden Slave in Schéhérazade.

In 1999 he performed the Pas De Deux from Don Quixote with Tamara Rojo at the Explosive Dance Gala at The Royal Albert Hall.In 2003 directed and danced in galas throughout Spain. In 2009 appeared as Nureyevs double in the BBC film “Margot”. Has taught classes at English National Ballet, and Danceworks Studios in London.
